Keith Smith awarded JM Lessells Travel Scholarship to visit EPFL

Keith Smith, has been awarded a JM Lessels Travel Scholarship from the Royal Society of Edinburgh worth £4150. This will allow him to accept an invitation to undertake research at Signal Processing Laboratory 2 (LTS2) at École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, Switzerland, from September till December 2015. This exciting venture will allow him to collaborate and learn from the world leaders of the emerging field of signal processing on graphs, working under the guidance of Prof. Pierre Vandergheynst.

Keith is a first year PhD student at the Institute for Digital Communications (IDCOM). He is undertaking an interdisciplinary project in collaboration with Alzheimer Scotland Dementia Research Centre under the supervision of Dr. Javier Escudero and Prof. John Starr. His research is aimed at developing methods to detect early changes in brain activity caused by Alzheimer's disease. To do this, he is developing the framework of graphs and networks for the analysis of functional brain connectivity of electroencephalogram signals.
