Research Associate in Signal Processing for Defence: Reconfigurable Signal Processing

A research associate position for 30 months is available on the University Defence Research Collaboration (UDRC) phase 3 project jointly funded by EPSRC and UK Ministry of Defence. This research associate position will contribute to the UDRC3 under work package 2.2, and will work within the Institute for Digital Communications at the University of Edinburgh.

This position provides a unique opportunity to define and address an unusual and relatively unexplored area of signal processing.

Most signal processing systems dispose of information along the processing chain. The benefits include: reduced communications, computational complexity and memory requirements. However, this “lost” information may be valuable and worth recovering: (i) when the system must be rapidly reconfigured beyond its intended use to address an unforeseen and imminent threat; (ii) for post-engagement, as part of a forensic analysis, to extract specific information tailored to evolving mission goals. We will consider the fundamental limits of such information recovery, active steps that can be put in place to facilitate it and the developments of algorithms to perform the necessary secondary inference.
