Biography:
Vasileios Koutsomarkos is a PhD student at the Edinburgh Fire Research Centre at the University of Edinburgh, under the supervision of Dr Angus Law, Dr David Rush and Prof. Grunde Jomaas. Vasilis graduated MEng in Civil Engineering from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, focusing on Structural Engineering. His thesis focused on heat transfer modelling.
Vasilis' PhD project is the development of a Fire Robustness Index for the Built Environment while taking into account the assessment of resilience towards a fire event using semi-quantitative methods.
His research is supported by The BRE Trust.
He was also the Fire Group's Social Co-Chair and the president of the SFPE Student Chapter Committee in 2019.
