We are delighted to present our plans to create a new Maker Space within the School of Engineering for our students. Our vision is to provide a creative and functional space where students can practise, create and innovate. MakerSpace@Eng will be a place for our students to grow and learn in a stimulating, bespoke environment, engaging in hands-on projects where they will have the opportunity to bring their learning to life and transform ideas into three-dimensional reality.

A team of engineering students and recent graduates have won the University’s Business Ideas Competition for Engineering Students and Graduates with their idea to improve public transport using a ‘big data’ analytics platform. The Business Ideas Competition is run annually by the University’s commercialisation service, Edinburgh Innovations, and invites student to pitch their business ideas and win up to £1,000 to launch them.

These are some ideas assessed at the second Engineers to the Rescue Workshop on Wednesday 28 September 2016. Two hours are not enough to develop a business model but how about developing an undergraduate research project or public engagement event in a similar workshop?
