Travel & Accomodation

DisCoVor 2026 will be hosted at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland, with all sessions held in the historic and iconic Playfair Library, offering an inspiring setting for presentations and discussions. Below you’ll find practical travel guidance for arriving in the city, reaching the venue, and booking accommodation.

Getting to Edinburgh

Edinburgh Airport (EDI) is the main airport serving Edinburgh, with frequent connections across the UK, Europe, and international hubs.

If there is no direct flight to Edinburgh from your location, connections via London are frequent, with onward domestic flights or fast rail services to Edinburgh available from London airports and city-centre stations.

Edinburgh is served by central mainline stations, including Edinburgh Waverley, with frequent services from major UK cities. From the city centre, most hotels and the Old Town are walkable or a short bus or taxi ride away.

Long-distance coaches operate into Edinburgh Bus Station in the city centre, with services from major cities across the United Kingdom.

From the bus station, most central hotels can be reached on foot or by local bus or taxi.

If travelling by car, please note that Edinburgh has controlled parking zones and limited city-centre parking, and traffic restrictions apply in some areas. Public transport is generally the easiest way to move around once in the city, particularly for reaching the Old Town and the conference venue.

Drivers should remember that vehicles in the UK drive on the left-hand side of the road.

Car-rental services are available at Edinburgh Airport and at several locations within the city centre. Visitors planning to rent a vehicle are encouraged to book in advance, especially during busy summer periods.

Getting to the conference venue

Once in the city, the conference venue at Playfair Library Hall (Old College) can be reached easily:

  • Tram → city centre, then short walk/taxi: Tram journeys to the city centre take ~30 minutes.
  • Bus (Airlink 100) → Waverley Bridge, then walk/taxi: Frequent service with an average journey time of ~30 minutes.

  • On foot: Old College is in the Old Town and is typically reachable on foot (expect hills and steps in places).
  • By bus/taxi: Numerous city bus routes serve the South Bridge / North Bridge corridors.

Where to stay
