The Careers Service works closely with the School of Engineering to help you develop your employability during your time at Edinburgh. We are here for all current students, from first year until two years after graduation. How we helpThere's a team of Careers Service staff who support students with building their experience, exploring career options, and making and implementing career decisions. We’re all here to help you, and we do it through creating the resources, organising the events, and offering the group workshops and individual support outlined below. You’ll see different members of our team when you come into the Careers Service, sometimes you’ll see us in your School, and at events we organise – we’re happy to help whatever your degree is or whatever stage of career planning you are at. You can meet with Careers Consultants and Careers Information Advisers without an appointment at a daily drop in session every lunchtime (12pm to 2pm) in the Careers Service Area, 1st Floor, The Nucleus Building. On demand support Digital tools available 24/7 to students allowing you to engage with career planning and part-time or graduate job search at a time convenient to you. All easily accessible from the Careers Service website. Careers Service website Highlights include: Where are you now -> suggestions for where to get started based on your stage of career planning (from no ideas to firm plans) Where are you now Build experience -> advice and information on the many ways you can build experience alongside your degree. Includes finding part-time and vacation work on and off campus, volunteering, getting recognition for skills developed (Edinburgh Award), and more. Build experience CV, cover letter and LinkedIn support -> comprehensive advice on how to create these application materials, and access to an online tool for feedback to improve applications. This includes the opportunity to upload details of the job you are applying for and get feedback on how to target your CV and cover letter for that job. CVs and applications Events Comprehensive programme of events organised by the Careers Service including opportunities for students to engage with employers, and webinars and workshops to help with career exploration and decision making. What’s On -> easy access to information about upcoming events open to students from any subject area, enabling you to join webinars or in person sessions based on your needs. Covers all aspects of career exploration and planning (from getting started and building experience, to understanding the graduate job market and making applications), an outline of our careers fairs and campaigns on different career sectors, opportunities to connect with individual employers, and specialist programmes for postgraduate students. Includes links to recorded content for quick access to insights to support students who are unable to attend live events or who prefer to engage in this way.
