New publication in Frontiers in Nanotechnology

In "Symmetric pulse-enabled highly linear analog switching in ALD-grown HfO2/Ta2O5-based memristor for multi-level storage and synaptic applications", Themis Prodromakis explored ALD-grown HfO2/Ta2O5 memristive devices and their potential in analog in-memory and neuromorphic applications.

APRIL AI Hub at the Edinburgh Science Festival

During the 2026 Edinburgh Science Festival, the APRIL AI Hub was thrilled to host three unique outreach events at the National Museum of Scotland: Future Voices: The AI Ethics Podcast, (AI) Life Begins at 50, and One Day. One Play. One Prompt

New Director of CEF

As Themis transitions to his new role as Head of the Institute for Integrated Micro and Nano Systems he annouced that Shiwei Wang is the new Director of the Centre for Electronics Frontiers from March 2026. Themis commented

'Shiwei’s expertise in power design, including his landmark work on Neuropixels at IMEC,  makes him the ideal leader to take CEF to new heights.  I look forward to supporting Shiwei and the entire team as we continue to bridge the gap between fundamental research and real-world impact.'

Dance Your PhD 2026 competition

Check out Semih Vazgecen's fantastic entry to Science News Magazine's Dance Your PhD 2026 competition! Semih's PhD thesis is on Non-frontal Facial Recognition using Generative Models and Memristor-based Classifiers, and the APRIL AI Hub PhD cohort get their digital detective hats on in this fun video.

New publication in IEEE Transactions

In IEEE Transactions on Electron Devices, Alin Panca, Hannah Levene, Andreas Tsiamis, Hannah Levene, Spyros Stathopoulos and Themis Prodromakis present the development of Indium–Gallium–Zinc Oxide (IGZO) thin-film transistors specifically engineered as selectors for memristive crossbar arrays. These IGZO TFT can enhance the performance and scalability of memristive memory systems, paving the way for more efficient in-memory computing architectures.

CHIMES-IKC Workshop

In January 2026, Themis Prodromakis attended the CHIMES-IKC workshop at the University of Sheffield. As co-lead from the University of Edinburgh, he is looking forward to advancing semiconductor technologies and heterogeneous integration system design to deliver the UK’s semiconductor strategy. CEF is thrilled to be part of the UK’s electronic systems design community, driving innovation and industry impact.

MEMRISYS 2025

In October 2025 we hosted the international conference MEMRISYS 2025  at the International Conference and Exhibition Centre, Edinburgh - with keynote speakers including Leon Chua and Stanley Williams. Over four days, more than 200 attendees engaged with presentations, live demos, poster sessions, tutorials and panel discussions.
