Every year tropical storms and hurricanes cause large amounts of damages and victims. In many cases people are forced to live in devastated areas without access to basic needs such as healthcare, clean water and food supplies, facing a hard and long recovery.
pureLiFi, the global leader in LiFi technologies, has announced the completion of its Series B Financing Round led by Temasek. The funding will support the development and commercialization of its proprietary cutting-edge LiFi technology that uses modulated LED light to provide wireless communications, with the potential to be significantly faster than current WiFi technology. Harald Haas, the founder of pureLiFi and the “father of LiFi”, said “I am absolutely delighted that this significant step for pureLiFi has been achieved towards unlocking the grand LiFi vision”.
2018 will mark the 150th anniversary of the Regius Chair of Engineering, thus establishing engineering studies at the University of Edinburgh on a par with the best in the UK. The School of Engineering will be marking this significant anniversary with a programme of events and activities. Planning has begun, and we also want to receive ideas and suggestions from our community of staff, students and alumni – or indeed anyone with a great idea!
On 23 June 2016 the UK electorate voted in a national referendum to leave the EU. There is no immediate, material change for our staff, students and EU-funded programmes, however, there will of course be many questions that staff and students, current and prospective, wish to ask. This site aims to address many of the immediate issues. Given the uncertainty at this stage, we may not be able to answer all your queries, or to answer them definitively, but we will work hard to keep you updated with the relevant changes.
Hyped are proud to announce they have been awarded funds from Innovation Initiative Grant, as well as a cash award, providing a modest, but comfortable budget to continue their research, development and testing. The group are keen to welcome new people and fresh ideas from mechanical, electrical and civil engineering as well as those who would be keen to help with outreach and marketing.
Young Professionals Green Energy Awards 2016 took place on Thursday 26 May in Glasgow and played host to over 300 members, guests and friends from around the world for an evening of entertainment and, most importantly, recognition of the contribution being made by the next generation of thinkers,
The annual IMEchE Renewable Strategy Engineering Competition for 2016 is now open for submissions. This competition is open to students and graduate engineers of all ages - Undergraduate students (BEng, BSc, MEng), Postgraduates (MSc, MRes, PhD) and industry-based engineers.
Dr Duncan Sutherland, who has recently completed his PhD in the Institute for Energy Systems (IES), has been awarded a Worshipful Company of Scientific Instrument Makers (WCSIM) Postgraduate Prize.
