IMP seminar:Carbon Neutral Distillery: towards a fully sustainable production

Location:

Classroom 2, Sanderson Building

Date:

Thursday, October 12, 2023 - 13:00 to 14:00

Abstract:

As a matter of fact, distilleries represent a power-intensive production process, in which significant amount of fossil fuels are burned to generate the energy required for the final product manufacture. For this reason, power savings and highly efficient energy production systems have become crucial to move these processes towards a sustainable approach. In this work, we are delighted to show our innovative production configuration, wherein advanced energy recovery systems are implemented to achieve a process where energy can totally come from renewable sources. In particular, we are going to display a practical case of a complete Single Malt Whisky Factory, able to produce two million of pure alcohol per year (2 MLA) with entirely green attitude. The process will be described and analysed in detail, a comparison with a standard configuration will be carried out, giving information about energy savings, CO2 emissions cuts, water demand, cooling loads, etc. An economical investigation will be accomplished to understand the payback time of our fully sustainable manufacturing configuration.
