Early Stage Researcher (ESR) in Enhanced Energy and Spectrum Efficiency in LiFi

The EU-ITN project ENLIGT’EM (https://enlightem.eu/) is now recruiting 15 early stage researchers (ESRs) to work on a diverse range of challenges in visible light communications/LiFi. Two of these positions, ESR 1.1 and ESR 2.1, are now available in the LiFi Research & Development Centre, School of Engineering, University of Edinburgh.

This advert is for ESR 1.1 whose focus will be on ‘Enhanced Energy and Spectrum Efficiency in LiFi’. This will include developing techniques to jointly optimise energy consumption and spectral efficiency in LiFi and interference mitigation between LiFi cells in dense networks.

Prospective candidates should hold an MSc/MEng degree or First class degree in any of the following:

  • Electronic/Electrical Engineering,
  • Computer/Electronic Engineering,
  • Telecommunication,
  • Communication Engineering,
  • Physics or any other closely related subjects.

A strong competence in communication theory, Matlab programming and passion for experimental work are required as well as good communication skills and ability to work in a team.

The ESR will be registered as a PhD student in the School of Engineering and will submit a PhD thesis at the end of the project.

The successful candidate will be expected to meet PhD admissions requirements of the School of Engineering, University of Edinburgh and the EU mobility requirements.

The post is available for a fixed term period of three years.

The position is open to applicants from all nationalities, as long as they meet the mobility requirements listed below.
