Reporting to the Senior Experimental Officer (SEO), who manages the FloWave Ocean Energy Research Facility, the School of Engineering is seeking to appoint an Experimental Officer who will be actively involved in the laboratory’s operation and tank testing activities. This will involve managing and delivering research programmes; contributing to the operation of the laboratory; developing and operating instrumentation; deputising for the SEO when required; and working collaboratively with its academic and research staff and students.
The FloWave Ocean Energy Research Facility is a state-of-the art wave and current test tank, delivering research services to academic and industrial users. The facility specialises in scale model testing for the offshore renewable energy sector, undertaking test programmes which utilise the tank’s capability to generate highly complex multi-directional combined sea states, supported by an extensive instrumentation suite. The post holder will work collaboratively with other FloWave staff to ensure that the facility supports and keeps pace with research requirements; successfully deliver test programmes to its users; liaise with collaborators and users; and will advise and train staff and students. The successful candidate will hold a PhD/EngD in a relevant scientific or engineering field and/or significant relevant professional experience, extensive technical problem-solving skills, substantial relevant research experience and a highly developed understanding of Health & Safety and other relevant regulations and procedures.
The post is full time and open ended.
Salary: £32,548 - £38,833 per annum
