Professor Alistair Borthwick elected a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering

Congratulations to Professor Alistair Borthwick who was recently elected a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering as an authority on environmental fluid mechanics, in particular for his contributions to computational hydraulics.  The citation by RAEng notes that Alistair established the £30 million Singapore-Peking-Oxford Research Enterprise for Water Eco-efficiency, and that he was founding Director of Marine Renewable Energy Ireland, a €25 million Centre supported by 47 industrial partners. Alistair has also just been appointed Adjunct Professor of Marine Energy at NUI Galway in Ireland.

During September and October 2014, Alistair Borthwick and PhD students, Sergio Maldonado and Maggie Creed, visited Tsinghua and Peking Universities, Beijing, partly to carry out research on geomorphological hazards, and partly to develop exchange activities in water and sediment science, large river fluxes, and tidal power resource assessment.
