Post date:
Congratulations to Dr Jin Sun from the Institute for Infrastructure and Environment (IIE) who has just been awarded a RAEng/Leverhulme Trust Senior Research Fellowship.
This Royal Academy of Engineering/Leverhulme Trust Senior Research Fellowship will support Jin to concentrate full time on research from 1 August 2017 to 31 July 2018. He will work on a project under the title "4D printing using programmable soft materials: from rheology to technology".
4D printing is an emerging technology that directly prints 3D structures that reshape themselves or self-assemble over time, responding to external stimuli. It holds great promise for constructing designer architectures with unprecedented control over complexity and functionality in a broad range of applications, such as civil infrastructure, embedded electronics, tissue engineering and drug delivery. The Fellowship will allow Jin to consolidate his research in fundamental rheology and bridge the gap to novel technologies in this direction.
