Xioayan is studying for a joint PhD degree with our School and Beihang University in China.
The paper, ‘UAV Aided Data Dissemination for Multi-hop Backhauling in RAN’, explores how drones could be used to help manage data traffic in future wireless networks. It describes a new algorithm to control the flight path of the drone so it can collect and communicate data from overloaded base stations.
Xiaoyan co-authored the winning paper with Rongke Liu, his supervisor in China, along with Dr Majid Safari and Shenjie Huang from the School’s Institute for Digital Communications. The award was received on Xioayan’s behalf by Professor John Thompson.
The conference, which was organised by Glasgow University in the Kelvin Hall, also featured a number of keynote speeches from academics including the School’s Professor Harald Haas.
