PhD student Jinxi Xiang wins I2MTC 2020 Student Travel Award

Jinxi Xiang, a one-year visiting PhD student working within the the Agile Tomography Group in the School's Institute for Digital Communications (IDCOM), has won the 2020 Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers International Instrumentation and Measurement Technology Conference (IEEE I2MTC) Student Travel Award.

The award is worth $1,000, enabling Jinxi to attend and present his paper ‘Image Reconstruction for Multi-frequency Electromagnetic Tomography based on Multiple Measurement Vector Model’ at I2MTC, the flagship conference of the IEEE Instrumentation & Measurement Society (IEEE IMS).

The IEEE IMS is dedicated to advancing measurement methodologies, measurement systems, instrumentation and sensors in all areas of science and technology.

Supervised by Dr. Yunjie Yang and Dr. Nick Polydorides, Jinxi aims to develop an agile Electromagnetic Tomography (EMT) system and advanced image reconstruction algorithms for biomedical imaging. His accepted paper to be presented at I2MTC explores enhancing the spatial resolution of EMT images through sparse Bayesian learning, which could potentially help clinicians to detect small abnormalities in the brain.
