Dr Chris Ness receives Royal Society award for contributions to pandemic modelling

Dr Christopher Ness, Royal Academy of Engineering Research Fellow in the School of Engineering, has been awarded a RAMP Early Career Investigator Award (RECIA) by the Royal Society for his role as Administrator of the RAMP Forums.

The award was confirmed recently by Sir Adrian Smith, President of the Royal Society. The RAMP (rapid assistance in modelling the pandemic) initiative was established by the Royal Society in April 2020 to coordinate the response of UK modellers to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Dr Ness played a key role in establishing the RAMP Forums, an online space for community review of the rapidly expanding literature on COVID-19 modelling. Forum contributors have reviewed over 500 papers, identifying many to be studied more closely with a view to bringing their findings to the attention of policy makers.
