Biography:
Dr. Majid Safari received PhD degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Waterloo, Canada. He is currently a Reader (associate professor) at the Institute for Digital Communication, University of Edinburgh, UK. His research interests include the application of information theory and advanced signal processing in optical wireless, optical fibre, and quantum communications. Dr Safari has published more than 100 papers and was named an “Emerging Leader” in Optics by the editorial board of the Journal of Optics in 2018. Some of his current research works include designing 6G Optical wireless networks as part of the EPSRC program grant TOWS, developing single-photon avalanche diode based receivers for classical communication, and the design of novel communication schemes for nonlinear long-haul fibre-optic channels. Dr. Safari is an associate editor of IEEE Transactions on Communication and was the TPC co-chair of the 4th International Workshop on Optical Wireless Communication in 2015.
