A group of volunteers from the School’s Technical Team recently took breathing apparatus training, as part of plans to create an emergency team to support new research projects. The initiative will require teams to stand by during the commissioning of experiments which have been identified as particularly hazardous by a risk assessment process.
Initiated by Wet Chemistry Lab lead, Caroline Delahoyde, the scheme means that technicians are now fully trained to use special breathing apparatus (pictured) in such scenarios.
The new Breathing Apparatus Team are now working with Health & Safety Manager Matt Tasker alongside the University's Fire Safety Unit on a School policy for hazardous gas rescues.
