We asked some current students and recent graduates to tell us about their experiences of undergraduate study at the School of Engineering.
Wiktoria Kinder, MEng Chemical Engineering
Wiktoria is originally Polish and grew up in Northern Ireland. She is interested in renewable energy, data analysis and policy. Outside of her studies and professional life, she enjoys bouldering, cycling and hillwalking.
Ben, BEng Mechanical Engineering
Ben from Leipzig (Germany) shares his experience of living and studying in Edinburgh as Mechanical Engineering student. Lavinia, MEng Mechanical Engineering
From captaining the hockey team and playing cricket to producing a CAD model of a gearbox, Lavinia has enjoyed taking advantage of everything the university has to offer. In her spare time she loves exploring Scotland and hiking up the Munros.
Molly, BEng Electrical and Mechanical Engineering
Molly, from London, tells us how she found moving to a new city and making friends. Outside of her studies, she enjoys crochet, art, electronic and metal music, spending time with friends and exploring Edinburgh.
Mukhil, BEng Electrical and Mechanical Engineering
Mukhil is from Chennai in India. His fascination with engineering began when he was young; he loved taking things apart to understand how they worked. This curiosity grew into a passion for robotics, cars, and almost any form of transportation. At Edinburgh, he's been an active member of Formula Student Society and HYPED, the University's Hyperloop Team, which has allowed him to work on exciting projects and collaborate with like-minded peers. He's also developed a keen interest in batteries and renewable energy technologies and aspires to work in the renewable energy industry after graduation.
Will, MEng Mechanical Engineering
With a big interest in fluid dynamics, computational modelling and marine systems and originally from Wales, Will tells us all about his experience of studying Mechanical Engineering and gives some helpful advice to students thinking of following in his footsteps.
Christine, MEng Civil Engineering
Christine joined the University from Malaysia and enjoys solo travelling, cooking for friends, drawing with her ipad and recently, reading. During term time, a lot of her time is spent with HYPED, the University of Edinburgh’s Hyperloop team.

The Civil Engineering programme integrates numerous elements of sustainability and the environment into the degree. Also, the picturesque landscapes of Edinburgh reminded me of Hogwarts!
